'Lena'
was from the third Gordon Setter litter that I co-bred
with Tujia Verho (Kingpoint)
and Erica
Bandes (Kinnike Kennels). She was whelped and raised at
Erica's house, and when I went to visit and reached into
the puppy pile,
Lena was the one that I picked up first, every time.
From the minute that she walked into the house, she was
the 'Princess' and we were all her 'staff'.
Lena
is my 'heart dog'
A long road trip to the GSCA National in Minnesota back
in 2000, when she was under a year old, showed me her inner
soul as she swept around the sweepstakes ring with close
to 100 degree temperatures and took Best of Opposite in
Puppy Sweepstakes under breeder judge Mary Quaco with an
entry of over 80.
She came into her regular class at that National in first
place catalogue order and never left that spot as the indomitable
Jane Forsythe gave her the large class win.
Finishing from the Bred By class, she has specialty wins
and a Best Bred By In Show.
Our obedience instructor passes her 'in spite of me' and
insists that Lena knows exactly how to 'work me' to get
her own way...and I know it.
She also knows just how to 'rub me the right way' and some
of my most 'zen' time is spent with her just leaning in
on me and stealing hugs.
She is the absolute best road trip partner and she and
the chipmunks at my house have an ongoing contest to outsmart
each other....right now it is a tie.
